Your first visit to our North Long Beach orthodontist is right around the corner – and we can’t wait to meet you in person!

We understand how intimidating it can be to arrive at a healthcare practice for the first time, so we want to help ease your mind. We’ll explain what you can expect at your first visit; that way, you will feel comfortable walking through our doors.

What Can I Expect at My First Visit to Orthodontics of Bixby Knolls?

Before your visit, you can access your new patient paperwork on our website. Download and print the health and dental history forms and either email them or bring the completed forms to us on the day of your appointment. When you arrive at our office, you’ll be greeted by our friendly front office team.

Then, one of our dental assistants will take you into one of the exam rooms, where you’ll meet one of our orthodontic specialists. At this point, your North Long Beach orthodontist will evaluate your teeth and jaw joints. Then, they’ll have their assistant perform some diagnostic tests.

Diagnostics

A dental assistant will take x-rays, which can include:

Panoramic x-rays
Periapical x-rays
Occlusal x-rays

They’ll also take photos of you smiling, not smiling, and exposing all your teeth (we’ll help with some special tools). The assistant will also take intraoral images and possibly impressions of your teeth for study models.

Diagnosis and Treatment Planning

Your Bixby Knolls orthodontist will review the diagnostic images and models to determine your diagnosis. Your orthodontist will create your custom treatment plan based on your diagnosis, dental needs, and personal goals and desires.

Your treatment plan will include recommended treatments, such as:

Invisalign® clear aligners
Metal braces
Porcelain braces
Headgear
Palatal expanders
Space maintainers
Jaw surgery

The treatment plan will also include an estimated timeline of treatment.

Scheduling and Payment Planning

Once your Bixby Knolls orthodontist has reviewed your treatment plan, answered your questions, and addressed your concerns, it’s time to talk with our front office team.

The front office staff will schedule all necessary appointments, including any referrals to maxillofacial surgeons if necessary.

Our team will also discuss your insurance coverage, payment options, and outside financing.
